This past weekend when I was in Winnipeg I had a chance to talk to this elderly Ethiopian man. He is approximately around 70 years old. He is a man with a great passion for science and technology. He was so passionate about science and doing research that he divorced his Ethiopian wife who was a homemaker and married an American chemist so that she would help him with his research. Back in the 60’s he was the first Ethiopian to invent different explosive devices. He had no education then. He was then sent to Germany for a scholarship. In the 70’s he made a helicopter using a Volkswagen engine. He showed me copies of newspapers from the 60’s and the 70’s when he made it to the headlines because of his inventions. He became a Christian a few years ago after he has retired.
One of the things he said to me was the reason why he did not want to become a Christian all these years was because he was led to believe that he had to choose between God and science. He obviously chose science and ignored God all these years.
Traditionally, the church has been pressuring people to choose between science and God. Those who chose God became ignorant in science and those who chose science gained science but missed out on eternal life.
Do you really have to choose between science and God? Is God really against science? Is science against any kind of faith? I tend to think that science and faith are a perfect mix.
God makes scientific sense,
