Anger Management

“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” Eph 4:26-27

When it comes to anger, the questions are these:  What angers you?  What do you do when you are angry?

In the interest of time I will leave the first question aside.  Paul dealt with the second question in this verse.  He gave us a straight forward answer:  In your anger do not sin.  He does not seem to be bothered by the fact that we may be angered.  He is mainly concerned about what we do when we are angry. For that he said,  do not sin.  Meaning, do not curse,  do not hit,  do not gossip,  do not do anything malicious.  Calm yourself down and talk about the issue and not the person.  That is what anger management counselors would tell you.  I wonder how many of those anger management counselors know that this is in the Bible.

He also said, “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”.  What does the sun have to do with our anger?  Nothing.  But the point is that you should settle your anger the same day before the sun sets. Do it ASAP.  If you have to forgive,  do it right away.  The sooner you forgive,  the healthier.

Our God is real.  He doesn’t create you the way you are and demand something that he didn’t create in you.  “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses” Heb 4:15

The sooner you forgive, the healthier.
