In 1st Samuel Chapter 12 the people of Israel sinned against the Lord and were terrified about how He would react. They said to Samuel, "Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king." Verse 19
Samuel, the prophet of the Lord, gave them this advice (these are Samuel’s own words from my NIV):
- Do not be afraid Verse 20
- You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD but serve the LORD with all your heart. Verse 20
- For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. Verse 22.
We all know that God is perfect. But, we also need to know that He is not a perfectionist. He doesn’t expect perfection from us, though He has it in its fullness. “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Heb 4:15
So, next time you fall down, don’t run away. Adam has already tried that and it did not work. If it didn’t work for Adam, it is not going to work for us. Instead remember this:
“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love... He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities” Psalm 103:8-10
