“Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other” Nehemiah 4:17
I don’t know how they could work on a construction project while carrying a weapon on one hand but the Bible says they did.
What is the construction project of your life? Are you waiting for the fight to be over to put down your weapon and start working on the project? That most likely will never happen. You have to learn to work with one hand while fighting with the other. Billy Graham was fighting Parkinson's disease on one hand while on the other hand preaching to millions of people.
When faced with problems, people react in one of two ways: There are those who are interested in finding out who is to blame. The other ones are the ones who don’t mind going the extra mile to solve the problem. They are focused on the solution and not the problem. That is what Nehemiah and his people did. They didn’t mind the inconvenience of working with one hand.
If you wait til it is convenient, you will never accomplish anything. Nehemiah could have rightfully blamed Sanballat and Tobiah and start fighting with them. But he didn’t. He said to them: "I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?" Neh. 6:4.
He remained focused on rebuilding Jerusalem and rebuild Jerusalem he did.
Focus on the solution not the problem.
