Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." Matt. 7:24-27
Note these two points:
- Practicing His words is what builds your house on the rock. That is more than just being a Christian. If you just hear His words and dont practice them, the Bible calls you foolish.
- Just because the wise man's house is built on the rock, it is not exempt from the wind, the storm, the rain etc. The wise man's house went through the same things that the foolish mans house went through. The difference is not in what you go through. The difference is in how you finish.
After all the trials the wise man's house stood firm. The foolish man's house, however, fell with great crash. As Christians we are not exempt from the wind, the storm, the flood, the stream. Do not to buy into the easy life gospel. Life is not easy. I will never forget what that Christian man who recently lost his wife and seven kids in the St. Catherines fire said on TV. He said Everybody has trials. If you dont have one, that means you are lined up waiting for your turn.
