Abstinence

Here are some points from the relationship book by Chip Ingram regarding the benefits of abstinence before marriage. But I would like to point out that these should not be viewed as reasons for abstinence. The one and only reason for abstinence is OBEDIENCE to the word of God as we all agree that the Bible is against sex before marriage. These are just some of the benefits of abstinence. Here they are:
- Those who abstain from sexual intercourse before marriage report the highest levels of sexual satisfaction in marriage. In fact, those who report they are very sexually satisfied in their lives are not good-looking singles who have multiple partners and who go barhopping to find the right person at the right time for this exciting life. Research done by Bethesda research Group reported in Washington post in 1994 concluded Couples who strongly believe that sex outside of marriage is wrong are whopping 31 percent more satisfied with their sex lives.
- Those who cohabitate or live together before marriage have a 50 percent higher possibility of divorce than those who do not. Researchers at UCLA discovered that not only do those who cohabitate have a higher level of divorce, they are more likely to commit adultery once they get married.
- By contrast, University of South Carolina in a study said that those who abstain from sexual intercourse before marriage have the highest rates of marital fidelity.
- The introduction of sex in dating relationship is almost always the ushering in of the breakup of that relationship. Doctors Les and Leslie Parrott made this statement after interviewing thousands of single people on college campuses.
- Sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, can remain dormant, asymptomatic (you dont know you have it) for up to a decade or more, but be passed on to others during that time. The rampant spread of STDs flatly contradicts those who try to claim that sexual intercourse is a harmless recreational activity to be pursued with the largest number of partners possible. People are paying with their lives and their health for accepting that lie.

God Bless you Seme, for discussing this crucial subject to all young men and women (youth) in a way whereby they look for a valid reason in this increasingly deceptive and enticing world.. For any youth that seek for rational reasons and/or scientific/statistical data to practice absenteesm this kind of information is very useful.. In fact it's this kind of discussion that helps us to apply the principles of the bible in our everyday lives, proving that all science and inventions are based on the rules and principles of God and when God instructs us to do or not to do something there's a valid reason behind it and for many who would like to get justification/consequenses to their actions this kind of information is very useful.. I also would like to encourage everyone to put your treasures (i.e. time, energy, money etc.) into the Kingdom, where moth and worms/ or inflation and marke- crush/lay-offs would not be able to touch them.. Love your God with all your might, heart/soul, mind/intellect.. and love one another as you love "yourself". Loving yourself calls for taking care of yourself, and only then you are capable of truly loving the other one.. Hope it would make sense.. Thank you Seme and keep up the good work.. Here is what I think As Christian and Ethiopian sex before marriage is wrong. The Bible promotes abstinence before marriage. Sex before marriage is just as wrong as adultery and other forms of sexual immorality, because they all involve having sex with someone you are not married to. Sex between a husband and his wife is the only form of sexual relations that God approves of (Hebrews 13:4). You are probably saying then why did god allowed/designed sex? Where is why God did he wants men and women to enjoy sexual activity within the confines of marriage. Don’t think that God is not letting as to have the so called “fun”. God is trying to protect us from many things for example; sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and children born to parents who do not want them because they are not prepared for them. Also in our culture having sex before marriage “WRONG because it is like prostitution.” Think why God would say sex before marriage is wrong. Our world would be fewer un-wed mothers, fewer unwanted pregnancies, fewer abortions, no sexually transmitted diseases. Moreover the ABSTINECE is God’s only policy when it comes to sex before marriage. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, gives sexual relations the proper value, and most importantly honors God
