Being A Witness
By Semere @ 1:14 PM :: 243 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Evangelism/Witnessing

Jesus' last words on the cross were "It is finished". You may have been a Christian long enough to know what He meant by that. But, since He did not specifically say what is finished, one might ask what is finished.

Interestingly, these are not Jesus’ last words on earth. He came back after resurrection and said some things. Of what Jesus said, the last thing recorded by both Matthew and Mark is this:

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matt 28:19

Again, one might say “I thought He said it is finished. Why do we have to make disciples?”

You see, when Jesus said it is finished what he meant is that He has done everything He wanted to do. Now, the curtain of the temple is torn, heaven is open for anyone who accepts the work that He just finished.  Making disciples is the act of spreading the good news of this finished work. Not that we add anything to it, but we go to all nations and tell them about it.

We looked at the dictionary definition of the word “Witness” this last Saturday. Dictionary.com says, witness means “to provide or serve as evidence”. Not only should we tell the good news of this finished work, but also the way I live my life and the way you live your life should serve as evidence of this finished work.

Blessings,
