“When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise” Prov 10:19
Have you noticed that this verse says when words are many sin is not absent and it doesn’t even say what type of words. It just says that when words are many sin is not absent. In other words, no matter what you are talking about, no matter how good your intentions are etc…. if you talk too much, you are bound to sin.
If you are preaching keep it short. If you are in a conversation, don’t talk in circles. Make your point and stop. Take more time to listen than to speak. If you are in love, express your love more in action than words. Otherwise, sooner or later you will end up saying something you shouldn’t be saying, or something your actions don’t support which makes you a hypocrite. Trust me. The best way to say anything is to say it in action.
That is why James tells us to…. “be quick to listen, slow to speak” James 1:19
Again, James does not seem to bother what we may be talking about. Whatever it is that you are talking about, you should do more listening than speaking. In other words, there should be more words going in your ear than those that come out of your mouth.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth” 1 John 3:18
