Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation…” Luke 2:29
This is what a man called Simeon said after he received baby Jesus into his arms. He has been waiting to see him all his life. He found Jesus. He took Him in his arms and he said, That is it. I have received this Jesus. Now BIMOTIM AYQOCHEGNIM.
This man did not receive a Jesus that is different from the one you and I have received but he seems to show an awful lot of satisfaction by just receiving baby Jesus into his arms.
Paul said to the Philippians. “Rejoice in the Lord, I will say it again, rejoice” Phil 4:4. I always wonder why he had to say it again. But, I kind of hear him saying between the lines, you guys don’t get it. You already have received something to rejoice about for the rest of your life. But I don’t see you doing that.
One thing we always overlook as Christians is that God has already given us the best gift He can ever give us: His one and only Son. Unfortunately, a lot of us spend our lives waiting for gifts from God, waiting for God to open that door, this door, waiting for visions to come true, waiting for the ministry to grow, waiting, waiting, waiting... We hear more sermons about waiting than rejoicing and in the process forget to rejoice in the best gift we have ever received and will ever receive. We need to stop and realize that God has already given us the best gift He ever intended to give us.
Stop waiting and start rejoicing,
