The bible says a lot about what is considered sin. Here is one: “Everything that does not come from faith is sin” Romans 14:23.
Everything. The context of this verse is where some Christians had argument over whether it is a sin to eat a certain kind of meat or not. In addressing the issue, Paul did not seem to care about whether they should eat that kind of meat or not. He is trying to change their focus from things to God. He basically told them that it does not matter whether you eat it or not as long you have the glory of God in mind, as long you do it out of your faith in God. Anything you do without God in the picture is sin.
Sin has many forms. But the sin of all sins is basically ignoring God, leaving Him out of your life. That is why there are people who probably are better persons than I am but are not saved because God is not in their lives. In the end, it is not a question of how much sin you have committed. In the end, it is a question of whether or not you have received the forgiveness of your sins. The bible does not say “Blessed is the man who does not sin”. It says “Blessed is the man whose transgressions are forgiven”. That is me.
Am I issuing a license to sin? By no means. Rather, I am promoting salvation by faith in the one and only Son of God. “Salvation is found in no one else”. Acts 4. If you are truly saved, you know what I am talking about.
