Three basic principles related to Money:
I. HOW YOU SEE MONEY
Verse: " I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Phil 4:12-13
- Contentment is not when you get what you want. Contentment is when you realize how much you have got.
- Money always promises but never delivers.
Conclusion: Be careful where you look for happiness and contentment. Don't try to find it in money.
II. HOW YOU MAKE MONEY
Verse: "The love of money the root of all kinds of evil" 1 Tim 6:10
- Don't make money at the expense of things money can't buy.
Conclusion: Be careful how you make money because there is more to life than just making money.
III. HOW YOU SPEND MONEY
Verse " We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it." 1 Tim 6:7.
- We don't own anything. God does. We are only stewards as long as we live in this world.
- What we do with the 90% is as important as what we do with the 10%. If you think God only gets 10%, you are treating Him like a waiter. He is the Lord. He owns the 100%.
- John McArthur's description of the spending habit of North Americans: We buy stuff we don't need with money we don't have (i.e., Credit Card) to impress people we don't like (i.e., competition)
Conclusion: Be careful how you spend your money because you are not the owner. God is.
If you apply these principles to your finances, I guarantee you that you will be able to see Jesus eye to eye when he talks to you about money on judgment day.
