The Bible speaks of two types of wisdom in James Chapter 3. One, it says, comes from heaven. The other one, it says, is earthly and unspiritual. In explaining the difference between the two James tells us that earthly wisdom is characterized by envy and selfish ambition where you find disorder and every evil practice. In contrast, heavenly wisdom is first and foremost characterized by humility: humility that comes from wisdom.
Earthly wisdom is about mental knowledge and heavenly wisdom is about character. Earthly wisdom is about how much you know but heavenly wisdom is about how you live your life. That is why the Bible says, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." James 3:13. No exams, papers or interview.
Another interesting comparison of worldly and heavenly wisdom is that each one is considered foolishness by the other. Here is why: "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight." 1 Cor. 3:18... And.... "..the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing..." 1 Cor. 1:18
The choice is ours to either choose heavenly wisdom and be considered foolish by the world or choose earthly wisdom and be considered foolish before God.
